The goals of the proposed research program are to examine the relationship between hostility and its management on levels of inflammatory markers and platelet reactivity.

A TRANSLATIONAL STUDY OF ANGER, ENDOTHELIAL CELL INJURY, AND OXIDATIVE STRESS
The major goal of this study is to examine the effect of anger induction on endothelial cell injury and to determine whether these dysregulations are partially explained by elevated levels of oxidative stress.

PILOT STUDIES OF VENTRICULAR REMODELING, MICROVOLT T-WAVE ALTERNANS, AND SUDDEN CARDIAC DEATH
The major goals of these studies are to collect pilot data into (1) the relations among depression, left ventricular remodeling, and microvolt T-wave alternans after an acute coronary syndrome event, and (2) the relations among cardiac resynchronization therapy, ventricular remodeling, and microvolt T-wave alternans in heart failure patients.

A CLINICAL TRIAL OF ASPIRIN AND SIMVASTATIN IN PULMONARY ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION
This is a 2X2 factorial clinical trial of aspirin and simvastatin in pulmonary arterial hypertension. The goal is to study the combination of these drugs on platelet reactivity, endothelial function, endothelial biomarkers, and six-minute walk in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension.

The major goals of this project are to assess whether serotonin-mediated platelet reactivity and blood thrombogenicity are increased in depressed patients with CAD; and to determine the effects of cognitive behavioral therapy and antidepressants from two different classes (serotonin reuptake inhibitors and serotonin-2A-receptor antagonists) on these biological mediators.
